COMMENTS:

The newspapers believe that between 10,000,000 m2 and 60,000,000 m2 were burnt in the two fires - certainly the Kissamos one covered a huge area (the parishes of Ano Pyrgos, Fournados and Agios Giorgos).
They called it "Black Monday".

Picture 2 (taken from central Kissamos): Helicopters carrying water from the beaches to try to put out the flames. The pilots were carrying out some amazing flying, dropping down to the beaches, scooping up water and dropping it with careful precision on their target, at the rate of one every minute.

Rest of the pictures: Taken within 1-2 kms of Kissamos, in the Pyrgos district.

The Photo with the car driving past was taken in Kissamos itself, near the marina - the fire stopped at the road and just missed a house with 2 LPG tanks!

1,000 cars from Falassarna were held back by the firefighters while they controlled this.
